Contemporary Perspectives on Chance, Providence and Free Will:
A critique of some modern authors
Jonathan P. K. Doye Ian Goldby, Christina Line,
Stephen Lloyd, Paul Shellard, and David Tricker
Abstract
We discuss the implications of modern science for the doctrine of providence
by examining the writings of the late Donald MacKay, Arthur Peacocke, and John Polkinghorne.
We summarise their views on the origin of human freedom,
the nature of divine action and the relationship of God to his creation.
We endeavour to weigh the scientific merits and biblical compatibility of these views.
